Where to take Family Photos in St. Louis

Below is a recap of some of my favorite locations for Family Photos in St. Louis

maternity session @ Forest Park (2023)

I’m so happy to bring to you a guide of St. Louis outdoor locations for photography sessions. This guide not only serves as a showcase of my personally favored parks and shooting locales, but is also intended to stand as a valuable resource for those who have hired me, aiding in your decision to choose a location that fits your vision.

WHAT GOES INTO CHOOSING A LOCATION?

Selecting the perfect session location is an artful balance between the overall creative vision and the unique character of each setting and client. I seek locations that resonate with your overall aesthetic, whether it be the playfulness of a field, the historical richness of architecture, or the soft touch of a garden. Some additional factors I consider:

  • time of day/lighting

  • open air & shade options

  • foliage

  • overall area for a variety in your final gallery

  • plan for how we’ll move around the location

Your chosen location plays a significant role in the overall feel and look of your photos, and careful curation ensures that every photograph is capturing not only the subject's beauty but also the heart of the chosen surroundings.

I offer personalized location scouting with each of my sessions. I visit any locations that I think fit your vision (after completing a questionnaire) and will send you ideas and recommendations. If you come to me with a special location in mind already, wonderful! I will still scout it in advance to ensure we schedule for the best lighting. I spend a lot of time and effort on location scouting and take pride in my ability to find the *perfect* match for your session!

Forest Park

Picnic Island

Located adjacent to the more well known Art Hill, Picnic Island has a bit of everything to offer as a potential backdrop for Family Photos in St. Louis. Manicured lawns, tall grassy areas, trees, water, paths and more! There are two bridges that connect the island to the rest of the park, separating it from some of the busier areas but making it very easy to find and access.

Deer Lake

If you have kiddos, this is one of my favorite spots in the park for Family Photos in St. Louis. There is so much versatility to the space and we can go for ‘completely surrounded by nature’, or play on the lawns and rocks near the water.

Art Hill & Grand Basin

What’s not to love?! The always the crowds, but wow is it gorgeous!!! If you are looking for something a bit more classic for your Family Photos in St. Louis, I always like to recommend here. I shoot at the bottom of the hill and the surrounding areas along Lagoon Drive.

Queeny Park

Queeny Park, located off Mason rd. In Town & Country is one of my favorite locations!! It’s beautiful year round and has both fields and architecture to use as our backdrop. Perfect for little to run around and capture a very playful session!

OTHER LOCATIONS

Of course these are not all of the locations I shoot at, just some of the more popular. If you have a location or private property in mind, don’t hesitate to let me know!
